The Kentridge girls soccer team is on a roll with a new head coach and a season goal to make the postseason fun.
Coach Sherri Rolfs left the Kentwood soccer program to take over the head job at Kentridge.
“I have a very strong group of girls and have high expectations for them,” Rolfs wrote in a email. “They just need to believe they can win.”
The coach said the team has played well beating Auburn Riverside Tuesday 1-0.
The Chargers are in fourth place with a 3-2-1 record. Its two losses were to Tahoma and Kentwood, both of which were undefeated through play on Tuesday.
Rolfs said Jena Flewelling, the goalie for the Chargers, brings both skill and “a wealth of experience” to the team along with Shyann Glasser and Mkenaa Hayes in the midfield.
The Chargers defense may be the key this season which features Jessica Hendricks, Porsche Jennings, Abby Klinkenberg and Kaitlyn Wagner.
Abby Klinkenberg’s twin sister Lexi is also on the squad.
A freshman, Hunter Mar, cracked the starting squad and she joins her sister Haeley Mar on the team.
Katie Pennington scored the winning goal over Auburn Riverside Tuesday at 71 minutes and Flewelling earned the shutout.
Kentridge will host Auburn Saturday at 4 p.m.
