ADAPTIVE RECREATION

KENT PARKS PROGRAMS

Programs for youths and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities are offered in bowling, swimming (developmental), swim team, basketball and tennis. BASEBALL

TRIPLE PLAY BASEBALL CLUB

Players ages 12-18 with a passion for baseball and a desire to take their game to the next level are invited to a workout with Triple Play baseball Club. More information: (253) 249-9359.

SHARP BASEBALL DEVELOPMENT

Athletes are being accepted for upcoming programs. Private and group lessons in hitting and advanced infield, as well as strength and conditioning programs are available. More information: (425) 306-0814.

EVERGREEN STATE SPORTS

BASEBALL JAZZ

BASKETBALL

KENT PARKS BOYS CAMP

This one-day camp is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, from 1-4 p.m. in the Kentridge High School gym. The camp will be directed by KR head coach Dave Jamison and members of the Chargers varsity. The cost is $25, and includes a T-shirt. More information: Kent Parks at (253) 856-5000.

KENT PARKS GIRLS CAMPS

These one-day camps are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9 a.m.-noon at Kentridge High School and Kentwood High School. The Kentridge camp will be directed by KR coach Mark Champoux and members of the Chargers varsity; the Kentwood camp will be directed by KW coach Dean Montzingo and members of the Conquerors varsity. KENT PARKS BOYS AND GIRLS LEAGUES

Separate leagues for each gender will be offered for players in grades 3-6 who live in the city of Kent, or reside within the Kent School District boundaries in unincorporated King County. Practices start in December, and games take place from January through March in area gyms. Each grade level will have its own teams. The cost is $40, and the registration deadline is Nov. 2. KENT PARKS BOYS MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL

This program is for boys in grades 7-8 who did not make their 2009-10 middle school teams. Players must reside in the city of Kent or within the Kent School District boundaries in unincorporated King County. Games will be played primarily on weekday evenings, with some Saturdays. BOCCE

Four courts are available at Auburn’s Les Gove Park. Equipment for bocce, a sport similar to lawn bowling, is available at the Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Building, 910 Ninth St. S.E. Free instruction is provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6 p.m. by the Auburn Bocce Club through Oct. 15 (weather permitting). More information: Auburn Parks at (253) 931-3043.

FISHING

INTRODUCTION TO WINTER STEELHEADING

This classroom session is set for Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Kent Seniors Activities Center. The cost is $25. Topics will include tackle, equipment, how to rig up, and which lures or baits to use, as well as information on local and regional rivers, and where and when to fish them. A resource manual is included. An optional outing, at a cost of $50, will be offered on Saturday, Dec. 5, on the Green, Snoqualmie or Skykomish River (depending on conditions) to try hooking a winter steelhead.

W. WASHINGTON WALLEYE CLUB

The club meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. behind and below the Green Acres Learning Center, 1826 S. 240th St. (just past Highline Community College). Guests are always welcome. NORTHWEST BASSMASTERS

FOOTBALL

KENT PARKS YOUTH FLAG PROGRAM

One program will be available for boys entering grades 4-5, and one for boys entering grades 6-7. It is open to boys who live in the city of Kent, or who are Kent School District students living in unincorporated King County. Players will be placed on teams in their school area. The cost is $45. Teams will play an eight-game schedule at Wilson Playfields on Kent’s East Hill from October through mid November. Games will be played at 6 p.m. or 7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, with a jamboree for both programs on Tuesday, Oct. 6. GYMNASTICS

BEGINNING GYMNASTICS

This class offered by Auburn Parks teaches beginning levels of gymnastics, with focus on muscle control, flexibility, power and coordination. It will be offered Oct. 7-28 and Nov. 4-25 on Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. at Auburn Gymnastics Center (1601 Boundary Blvd.). The cost is $55 for Auburn residents and $69 for non-residents. HOLIDAY CAMP

This camp for boys and girls ages 6-12 will be offered Dec. 28-30 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each day at Hart’s Gymnastics Center, 4520 B St. N.W., Suite C, in Auburn. The focus will be on fun and the opportunity to work on some gymnastics skills. Campers should bring their own lunch each day. The cost is $100 for Auburn residents and $125 for non-residents. For two children from the same family, the cost is $75 per child for Auburn residents and $94 per child for non-residents. For three or more children from the same family, the cost is $67 per child for Auburn residents and $84 per child for non-residents. HOCKEY

BEGINNERS PROGRAM

The Sno-King Junior Thunderbirds will offer a year-round, beginners-level program for boys and girls ages 5-10. No skating experience is necessary. The program will be on Saturdays at Castle Ice in the Renton Highlands, or at Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland. Players are welcome to join at any time. ICE SKATING

LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES

An eight-week series with group and private lessons for boys, girls and adults is being offered at KENT VALLEY ICE CENTRE. Instruction is based on criteria set forth by the Ice Skating Institute. Skating classes are a solid starting point for those interested in figure skating or hockey. The facility is located at 6015 S. 240th St. in Kent. OFFICIATING

KENT PARKS

KENT PARKS ADULT LEAGUES

RUNNING

KENT PARKS CHRISTMAS RUSH

This 27th annual fun run/walk is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at Russell Road Park. The 5K run starts at 9:50 a.m., and the 10K starts at 10 a.m. A 5K non-competitive recreational walk also will be offered at race time. The course is flat and scenic. The cost for the run or walk only is $10 if registered by Dec. 4, and $20 thereafter. With a long-sleeve T-shirt, the cost is $20 by Dec. 4, and $25 thereafter. VOLLEYBALL

KENT PARKS ADULT LEAGUE

Leagues are offered three times throughout the year: Fall (September-December), Winter (January-March) and Spring (April-May). PAT POWERS CLINIC

This clinic for ages 13 and older (12-year-olds are accepted if they are going into 7th grade) is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12-13, at Kent Commons. Topics covered during the clinic will be putting spin on the ball to increase control, how to snap a ball instead of hitting it, and putting “pop” on serves.
