About 20,000 residents in Redmond and unincorporated King County can dial 911 again from their land-line phones now that a severed fiber optic cable has been repaired.

Residents lost 911 phone service for several hours when a construction crew accidentally severed the cable at the corner of Redmond Way and 159th Place NE in Redmond on Tuesday afternoon.

Residents regained phone service around 8pm Tuesday night. The temporary telephone outage limited residents’ ability to dial 911 from a land-line phone in the event of an emergency.
