Never count out the Kentridge High baseball team.

The Chargers proved as much Tuesday afternoon, storming back from a five-run, seventh-inning deficit to knock of Federal Way 7-6 in a South Puget Sound League North Division game.

It was Kentridge’s fourth straight win and helps the Chargers go into Wednesday’s doubleheader against Kentwood tied for second in the North Division standings.

Confidence booster?

“It gives us more than we had when it was 6-2,” quipped Kentridge coach John Flanigan. “We were pretty flat at the beginning of the game. Guys just got on a roll and got it done.”

Indeed.

Things looked bleak at best for the Chargers with one out and nobody on base in the bottom of the seventh.

Then Kentridge’s bats came alive.

Cody Hamada put plated the game-winning run with an RBI single to right field. Ben Mora, Hayden Njos, Jason Didis and Shayne Mathews all had RBIs in the inning.

“This is huge,” Flanigan said. “Guys were stepping up and making plays. Last year, I don’t know that we would have gotten this one.”

Guys certainly stepped up. Chris Hamre delivered 1 2/3 innings of strong relief to pick up the win. Craig Rasmussen led the offense, going 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
