City gives 72,500 free sandbags to residents; more available

As of Oct.20, Kent City officials had distributed more than 72,500 free, empty sandbags to residents.

“The residents are getting in shape,” said Tim LaPorte, city interim public works director, in a report to the City Council Oct. 20.

People have used more than 380 tons of sand so far at six sites set up by the city.

Residents can get the sandbags between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 24 and 31 at the City Operations facility, 5821 S. 240th St. Each household is limited to 100 sandbags.

Residents can fill the sandbags at one of six locations during daylight hours and should bring their own shovel. The six locations are:

The old Panther Lake Elementary School, 20831 108th Ave. S.E.; Fred Meyer store, 10201 S.E. 240th St.; Earthworks Park, 742 E. Titus St.; Home Depot store, 26120 104th Ave. S.E.; Totem Middle School, 25630 40th Ave. S.; and Grandview Park, 3600 S. 228th St., in SeaTac.
