Both occupants escaped injury as a small-engine plane emergency landed safely Wednesday afternoon near the Smith Brothers Farms in Kent after its engine reportedly failed on takeoff from the Auburn Municipal Airport.

The plane developed engine trouble shortly after takeoff with two adults on board and was forced to land on a field, according to an email from Kyle Ohashi, spokesman for the Kent Fire Department. No one was injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Traffic Safety Board are investigating the crash, Ohashi said.

The Smith Brothers Farms and dairy are west of the West Valley Highway and north of South 277th Street. The Auburn Municipal Airport is at 400 23rd St. N.E., about 4 miles from where the plane landed.
