Kent to lower speed limit along West Meeker Street

Kent drivers will soon see a lower speed limit along West Meeker Street between Washington Avenue South and Russell Road.
The Kent City Council approved Dec. 13 a staff recommendation to drop the speed limit from 40 mph to 35 mph along that stretch of the road.
City staff recommended the lower speed limit because of traffic congestion along West Meeker as well as increased commercial and retail development. The staff report indicated that the street has a lot of driveways that lead to potential conflict points between vehicles.
The speed limit will remain 40 mph along West Meeker between Russell Road and State Route 516, also known as Kent-Des Moines Road.
