Man with Kent ties nominated for Academy Award for his screenplay

Bob Nelson, who grew up in Kent and formerly wrote and performed as a cast member on the TV show “Almost Live,” was nominated for an Academy Award Thursday for Best Screenplay for the movie “Nebraska.”

Nelson, who was born in South Dakota born and lives on Whidbey Island, also was previously nominated for a Golden Globe for his screenplay.

“Nebraska” attracted six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Bruce Dern.

On the announcement, Nelson told The Seattle Times, “It’s pretty exciting, for a boy from Kent.”
