KentHOPE to host fundraising banquet on Nov. 1

KentHOPE’s second annual fundraising banquet is at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, 19300 108th Ave. SE, Renton

Organizers said the program will provide stories of transformation and share the vision of establishing a permanent center in Kent. The dinner will showcase accomplishments and bring attention to the three-year effort to establish a 24-hour KentHOPE resource center and shelter.

KentHOPE’s mission is to build community by providing stable pathways out of homelessness while caring for body, mind and spirit.

“We are planning an excellent dinner and an outstanding program to bring awareness to our community about KentHOPE’s progress as we ask for funding to continue our work,” said Pat Gray, KentHOPE board chair.

Keynote speaker will be Sheila Sebron, a parent and veteran who will share her story and perspective. Sebron serves on the governing board of the Committee to End Homelessness.

In addition, Julie Kimball and her family will provide bluegrass musical accompaniment.

In its first eight months of operation, the KentHOPE Women and Children’s Day Center has connected 17 homeless women with housing, and an additional 15 have enlisted in recovery programs that include housing. An average of 21 women access services and an average of 41 meals are provided each day.

KentHOPE, which is dedicated to reducing homelessness in the community, is a partnership of churches and faith-based groups, Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, Valley Cities Counseling, businesses, community service agencies, and concerned citizens.

KentHOPE’s Day Center, a day shelter for homeless women and children, is at 9009 Canyon Drive in Kent.
