Increase in flu-ridden students to close Kent Valley Early Learning Center on Friday

Kent Valley Early Learning Center will be closed and all school activities will be canceled Friday due to an increase in student absences attributed to flu-like symptoms.
The school will be thoroughly deep cleaned before it reopens Monday, the Kent School District said.
The center, at 317 Fourth Ave. S, hosts kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes for Kent and Neely-O’Brien elementary schools.
The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the health and safety of students, the school district said.
Fewer than 30 students have exhibited symptoms consistent with a viral gastrointestinal infection. While seldom serious, infections can make a person contagious for a few days after feeling better, and students should stay home from school for at least 24, preferably 48 hours, after symptoms have ended.
