Drivers should take extra care and prepare for travel delays as the annual Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic (STP) rolls through Kent and Western Washington beginning Saturday, July 11.

Organizers expect 10,000 cyclists to travel on state highways and local roads during the popular event. The state Department of Transportation asks drivers to share the road, keep a sharp eye and allow extra time for travel.

A food stop is scheduled for riders at REI in Kent, 6750 S. 228th St., from 5:45 to 9:30 a.m.. REI is at the 24-mile mark of the 206-mile ride. Bicyclists will pedal along the West Valley Highway through Kent on their way to Auburn.

The classic starts at 4:45 a.m. at the University of Washington in Seattle and finishes at Holladay Park in Portland. Some riders complete the ride in one day while others take two days.
