BECU Foundation awards Kent students

The BECU Foundation has awarded 80 students – including two from the Kent area – with a $3,000 scholarship.

Kent’s Teresa Hoskins will attend the University of Montana, where she plans to major in psychology. Kyla Klasen will attend Washington State University and major in marketing.

The BECU Foundation has granted more than $2 million in scholarships to 950 BECU student members since 1995. Scholarship recipients were selected based on their excellence in the community and in the classroom.

Elsewhere

Kent’s Emma Finnsson received several scholarships to attend Washington State University this fall. Finnsson, a 2014 graduate of Raisbeck Aviation High School, plans to graduate from WSU in 2018 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Finnsson received: a $4,000 WSU Trustees Scholarship; a $1,000 WSU Destination Scholarship; a $1,000 Voiland College of Engineering Scholarship; a $1,000 AFT Washington/Schwerin Campbell Barnard Iglitzin & Lavitt Scholarship; a $500 Robert W. Finch Memorial Scholarship from the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering; a $500 Marge Pare Women Engineers Scholarship from the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering; and a $400 Music Scholarship from the School of Music in the College of Liberal Arts at WSU. Finnsson is an active member of CRU and the WSU Symphony Orchestra. She is the daughter of Lisa and Siggi Finnsson. … Kent’s Cherene O’Hara (bachelor of arts, communication studies) recently graduated from Western Oregon University. … Calli Millang is the recipient of a $3,000 scholarship from the BECU Foundation. She will attend the University of Washington-Seattle campus and major in business.
