Kentwood girls soccer hosts Kick for the Cure benefit match | SLIDESHOW

Kentwood High School girls soccer hosted Eastlake High School at French Field on Saturday for the seventh annual Kicks for a Cure benefit match.

The varsity teams, which sported pink and white uniforms and played with a pink ball, tied 2-2.

The event featured raffle baskets, prizes and a bake sale. Danny Waltman, goalkeeper from the Tacoma Stars, and Beverly Yanez, midfielder for the Seattle Reign, attended Saturday’s event and signed autographs.

In the previous six years, Kicks for the Cure has raised about $25,000 for the MultiCare Women Get It fund, which helps women who can’t otherwise afford it the opportunity to receive breast cancer testing that can save their lives.

Kicks for the Cure organizer Tara Radford said so far this year the event has brought in nearly $4,000, including $1,900 from Saturday’s raffle and $1,200 from a carwash in September.
