At the order of Gov. Jay Inslee, Kent-based Puget Sound Fire announced it will fly its United States flags at half-staff on Thursday in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
This day, created in 1994, honors those Americans killed or injured as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. A total of 2,403 Americans died and 1,178 were wounded when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The attack launched the U.S. into World War II.
The governor annually orders American flags to be lowered on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.
