Two fires that struck buildings in Kent almost simultaneously Thursday are under investigation, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority reported.
The first fire was reported at a paper shredding company in the 18700 block of the East Valley Highway at 5:30 p.m. Firefighters from Puget Sound and Renton RFAs responded to the incident and were able to control the fire quickly.
There were no reported injuries.
The second fire was at a house in the 27000 block of 118th Place Southeast, reported approximately 15 minutes after the commercial fire. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the windows of the single-story home. The resident was able to escape without injury.
Because the fire was reported quickly, only the contents of one room were burned, though smoke caused damage throughout the house, according to Puget Sound Fire.
The Flood Guys helped the owner by boarding up exterior damage caused by the fire. The assistance is free as a community service.
Investigators have not yet determined a cause of either fire.
