CERT training available

The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and the Office of Emergency Management are offering Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.

The eight-week program begins Sept. 18. The class meets on Tuesdays, with the first session beginning at 1 pm, and a second one at 6 p.m., at the Joint Police/Fire Training Center, 24523 116th Ave. SE, Kent.

Classes are free and open to anyone in the area interested in being better prepared for a disaster.

Over the eight weeks, participants will gain valuable information and skills in:

• Search and rescue

• Leadership and the incident command system

• Disaster medical and triage

• Heavy lifting

• Hazardous materials recognition

• Fire extinguishment

• Disaster psychology

CERT is a government program, hosted by local agencies to help people prepare for and survive the first 72 hours following a disaster, whether man-made or natural.
