A customer leaves with items Thursday from the Franz Bakery Outlet, 23009 Military Road S., in Kent that will close Feb. 1 after more than 30 years in town. Customers are visiting the Franz Bakery Outlet on Kent’s West Hill for the final days as the business will close Friday, Feb. 1.

The outlet, 23009 Military Road S., is closing after Poulsbo RV recently bought the property that Portland-based Franz leases. The RV dealership, next door to the outlet, hopes to remain in the area with the additional property when the state Department of Transportation constructs a tunnel under Interstate 5 to connect Veterans Drive with State Route 509.

The highway project could start in 2020 with a projected completion date of 2025 or 2026, according to state DOT officials.

After the Kent location closes, Franz customers can visit the Tukwila outlet, 17500 W. Valley Highway, which is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

A Franz spokeswoman confirmed the outlet closure Jan. 10 in a Kent Reporter article.
