Kentridge’s Naomi Benavides hits three doubles in win over Interlake

Kentridge fastpitch bounced back in a big way after a 16-1 defeat to Tahoma last time out with their own dismantling of Interlake on April 28.

The Chargers downed the Saints, 16-4, in five innings and got right back into the win column after their worst loss of the season.

Sophomore sensation Jo Thompson took to the circle against Interlake after giving up 10 hits and nine earned runs in five innings to Tahoma five days before.

Thompson was back to her old self, and in three innings, struck out eight batters and gave up just two hits on 46 pitches.

Something must have been in the dirt out at Kent Service Ballfields because both teams combined to make 10 errors between the two of them (Kentridge 4, Interlake 6).

Naomi Benavides led the Chargers’ offense as the sophomore infielder went 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. Genesis Miller was the only other batter who didn’t record an out for Kentridge as she went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and four runs scored. On top of that, Miller was the first pitcher out of the bullpen, tossing two innings, allowing four hits and four runs, but none of the four runs were earned.

Thompson also brought it with the stick — she went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, four RBI and three runs scored.

The top of the Kentridge offense killed Interlake pitching as the top four batters went a combined 11-for-14 and scored 11 of the 16 runs. Junior Sam Holbrook was the lone Charger in the bottom half of the order to record a base hit.

Kentridge is back in action on May 1 on the road at Kennedy Catholic.
