VFW Post honors Kent cop as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

The Kent-Meridian Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6785 honored Kent Police officer Jeff Kluzak as its Law Enforcement Officer of the Year during its monthly meeting Dec. 18.

“It’s nice to get the recognition,” a humble Kluzak said after receiving the award. “We’re not always looked upon favorably, so this is good recognition for the work that we do.

“I just want to thank (the VFW) for recognizing me and the Kent Police Department.”

In addition, the VFW Post 6785 has nominated Kluzak for the State Officer of the Year Award, which is expected to be announced in June.

Kluzak, 29, has been with the Kent Police since 2008 after previously working in public safety in Michigan, first as a firefighter and then a police officer.

At Kent, he has been assigned to the patrol division and most recently, the Neighborhood Response Team. He has earned three life-saving medals, two of which occurred while on duty in Kent.

Kluzak is married and has two children. He enjoys family and the outdoors.
