The late Dr. O.L. Montgomery of Kent was among six Washington residents recently inducted into the Washington State 4-H Hall of Fame for their leadership, commitment and impact on 4-H and the community.

The group – Montgomery, Bob Brusewitz (Lake Stevens), Linda Conway (Monroe), Stan and Nancy Depner (Monroe) and Floy Ziegler (Burien) – was honored at the 4-H Forum in Seattle on Oct. 19.

Montgomery led the Lucky Shamrocks 4-H Club and was a member of the King County Fair Board in the 1940s, later serving as its chairman for many years. He also served on the Kent School Board from 1953-1972.

Montgomery also worked as an assistant state veterinarian and was later appointed state veterinarian by Gov. Albert Rossellini.

Brusewitz, Lake Stevens, has been a 4-H leader for 17 years and instrumental in bringing technology, robotics, rabbit and vet science projects to youth.

Conway, a 30-year 4-H volunteer, has held numerous leadership positions, including club leader, 4-H Council member and served 10 years as the Evergreen State Fair Equine Superintendent.

Stan and Nancy Depner have been involved with 4-H for more than 29 years with the Turkey Trotters 4-H Club and the Sky Valley 4-H Club.

Ziegler became a club leader in King County 13 years ago and has been instrumental in educating hundreds of youth.

More than 175 people have been inducted into the State 4-H Hall of Fame since its inception in 2001.
