New International Counseling and Community Services office opens in Kent

International Counseling and Community Services (ICCS), a provider of mental health services in the Pacific Northwest for refugees and survivors of torture, will celebrate the grand opening of its new Kent location on Friday, Nov. 13.
The public opening is from 2 to 4 p.m.; with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. ICCS is a program of Lutheran Community Services Northwest.
The event will feature authentic artwork from Somalia, Iraq and Russia. Light refreshments and informal tours of the facility will be provided.
The office, 10803 SE Kent-Kangley Road, opened on Nov. 2. Five full-time staff members will work in Kent. The primary office will remain in SeaTac. The second office was needed because the agency outgrew the SeaTac facility, and many patients/clients live in the Kent area.
“The Kent clinic will slightly increase how many clients we serve, but more importantly our clients will have better access to counselors,” said Beth Farmer, program director, in an agency media release. “We were out of space in our SeaTac office.”
The group works with more than 5,000 refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants every year. Staff helps individuals heal and adjust to their new communities by providing critical therapeutic services to those who have been persecuted, oppressed, experienced trauma, and are marginalized by language and culture.
Services are provided in 16 languages. In addition to the two offices, ICCS operates a Family Resource Center in SeaTac. That center provides employment assistance, ESL and early learning, resource and referral services. The goal is to promote family stability and individual success.
