World Relief’s SEA-TRI-KAN bike ride for refugee employment kicks off June 10

World Relief’s second annual SEA-TRI-KAN bike ride kicks off Friday, June 10, at its office in Kent, 841 Central Ave. N., C-106.

SEA-TRI-KAN (pronounced see-try-can) is a five-day, 400-mile ride across the state, connecting World Relief’s three offices in Kent, the Tri-Cities and Spokane. Twenty-two riders have raised nearly $40,000 for World Relief’s employment program for refugees new to the community. Through the program, refugees build the skills and make the connections necessary to begin their first jobs in America.

The ride features a mixture of community members, local refugees and cyclists in their coordinated jerseys. World Relief’s group of 22 cyclists will have a synchronized sendoff at 1:30 p.m.

Refugees on World Relief’s program come from countries as varied as Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Somalia and Burma. In 2016, World Relief is on pace to welcome more than 800 refugees to the Seattle area, most of whom will be settled in South King County.
