Friends, relatives, co-workers and former co-workers showed up Thursday at Kent City Hall to say farewell to retiring City Attorney Tom Brubaker.

People packed Council Chambers for Brubaker, who worked 28 years for Kent, including city attorney since 2002. Mayor Dana Ralph last month proclaimed Friday, Feb. 2 as Tom Brubaker Day in the city. Ralph promoted Deputy City Attorney Pat Fitzpatrick to replace Brubaker.

The city attorney sits in at all City Council meetings, represents the mayor, handles any legal issues before the city and oversees lawyers and support staff in the city’s civil and criminal divisions. City prosecutors handle the misdemeanor cases at Kent Municipal Court.
