Kent Police to emphasize railroad crossing safety on Sept. 24

Kent Police officers will be stationed at numerous railroad crossings across the Kent Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 24, to ensure vehicles are not stopping on the tracks.

The emphasis patrols are part of the nationwide Operation Clear Track effort in support of Rail Safety Week (Sept. 22-28), according to Kent Police.

Amtrak Police and Operations Lifesaver, the nonprofit rail safety education organization, also will participate. More than 600 law enforcement agencies across the nation will take part.

The goal is to raise awareness and enforce state railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws. It’s a way to reduce pedestrian and driver injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks through increased public awareness and enforcement.

The third annual rail safety event is the single largest rail safety law enforcement in the U.S.
