Nearly three dozen firefighters responded to a fire at about 12:56 a.m. Monday, June 20 at the Atrium on James Street Apartments in the 24000 block of 64th Avenue South.

Five residents were evaluated for minor injuries and transported to a local hospital, according to a June 21 email from Pat Pawlak, Puget Sound Fire spokesperson. Five apartments were damaged by either fire or water. Red Cross assisted residents who were displaced.

A total of 12 fire department units responded to the two-alarm fire, Pawlak said. The units were from Puget Sound Fire, Renton Regional Fire Authority, Valley Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic One and Zone 3 Fire Cadets. Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 50 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Pawlak said.
