Kent residents who want to stop the city of Kent’s sale of Pine Tree Park to a developer have started an online petition drive.

Those interested can find the petition drive at change.org. The title of the drive is Save Pine Tree Park – Stop the Sale & Construction of a High Density Subdivision.

The City Council unanimously approved the $2 million sale in September when it reconvened in open session after discussion of the sale in executive session. City officials said they need the money because of financial struggles, including needs to upgrade park facilities.

Oakpointe Communities wants to build 64 homes on the 10-acre park site and on 4 acres it bought from the Kent School District.

The petition will go to Mayor Suzette Cooke as well as the seven-member council.
