The Valley Regional Fire Authority and two local fire agencies knocked down a late morning fire Wednesday (Dec. 9) that had threatened the business complex at 951 East Main St., home to Athens Pizza, Nail Master Too, Cascade Chiropractic and Salon Focus.

Cascade Chiropractic made the first call at 11:11 a.m., and VRFA crews arrived within three minutes to find smoke rolling out from under the awning, according to Kimberly Terhune, public information officer for the VRFA. Terhune said firefighters had the fire under control by 11:40 a.m.

Terhune said everyone was safely out of the building by the time firefighters arrived, and no one was hurt.

Fire investigators have since determined that the cause of the fire was accidental, specifically, current overload.

Terhune said Nail Master Too and Salon Focus sustained the most damage to their interiors as firefighters had to pull their ceilings to get to the flames.

“With Athens Pizza and Cascade Chiropractic, it was mainly smoke damage,” Terhune said. “We cut the power out to the entire building, and those two businesses will have to take care of the damage before they can reopen.”

Terhune said the process will take longer for Nail Master Too and Salon Focus.

South King Fire and Rescue and Kent-based Puget Sound Fire helped VRFA battle the fire.
