Children in preschool to fourth grade participated in hands-on projects at Kent Commons

More than 1,000 people participated in the 37th annual Kent Kids’ Arts Day at Kent Commons.

Activities included day crafting, playing and connecting with city Parks staff and volunteers, 15 local artists and businesses, according to a Kent Parks Facebook post about the March 8 event.

The event was for young artists from preschool to fourth grade so they could enjoy a full day of hands-on art projects led by professional artists. The cost was $10 per child. There was no cost for adults and children ages 2 and younger.

“We’d also like to send a very special thank you to the amazing professionals who helped lead such imaginative crafts for our little artists,” according to Parks staff.

Those professionals included Liz Gasper, Christy Caravaglio, Benson Hill Cooperative Preschool, Catherine Eith, Penny FireHorse, Jonathan and Joy Docter, School of Rock Kent, Sandra Casillas, Brian Lane, Crystal Goodwin, Smith Brothers Farms of Kent, Moore Than Rocks of Kent, Meagan McBride, Kent YMCA and Medulla Chiro One, along with food vendors – Yummy 8 Food Truck and Kettle Beach Concessions.

Performers who took the stage were Spotlight Dance Center, of Renton; Kent Elementary Stomp; Seattle Genius Taichi Center, of Redmond; and Allegro Performing Arts Academy, of Kent.

Kent Kids’ Arts Day is a project of the Kent Arts Commission and city of Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services. The festival is organized with the assistance of community educators and is partially funded by 4Culture, Kent Lions Club, Smith Brothers Dairy and Kent Community Foundation. The Kent School District, Kent Commons staff and event volunteers also took part.
