Kelsea Ballerini calls Lucia Flores-Wiseman ‘A modern-day Amy Winehouse’

With another impressive performance on NBC’s “The Voice,” Maple Valley’s Lucia Flores-Wiseman won in Knockouts to earn a spot in the Playoffs.

The judges had plenty of praise for the 22-year-old after she sang “Slow It Down,” by Benson Boone, during Knockouts on the March 31 show.

“You sing with such certainty,” Kelsea Ballerini said. “You demanded attention. You kind of remind me a bit of a modern-day Amy Winehouse.”

Adam Levine, the coach for Flores-Wiseman, picked her to advance over teammate Grace Miller.

“You generally embody all the best things I think a singer should be,” Levine said. “More importantly, you’re different. You sound different. Your voice comes on the radio and everyone’s going to know what that is. That’s a very special thing.”

Levine added another reason for choosing the 2020 graduate of Tahoma High School.

“Lucia is unlike anybody’s who’s ever been in this competition,” Levine said. “I’d love for her to be a finalist.”

Each of the four coaches will only be able to advance two artists from the Playoffs to the Live Shows. The Playoffs begin April 28 followed by the Live Shows with a winner to be crowned May 20.

Artists are allowed to pick a song to sing in the Knockouts. Flores-Wiseman chose a song by Boone, 22, who is from Monroe in Snohomish County.

In an April 1 Facebook post, Flores-Wiseman, a graduate of Green River College and the University of Washington, shared about her experiences on “The Voice,” including going up against Miller in the Knockouts.

“One of the best parts about ‘The Voice’ is getting to meet and connect with so many people,” she said. “It’s so weird to be living in a hotel, but Grace Miller truly made this the best experience.

“We may not have photos or videos of every single fun thing we’ve done, but it’s because we valued such intentional time together (lots of times away from phones) unwinding, practicing, laughing, sharing stories, exercising, meeting each other’s families and most fun of all, singing together.

“GM showed so much love and care towards me throughout this whole journey and I am so grateful to call her a friend for life.

“I’m not going to lie, it was tough going up against a friend, because all we wanted was the best for each other. I seriously cried so much after our Knockouts because I wish we could have continued this journey together.”
