Residents are invited to attend the annual Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday, May 26 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., in Kent.
The ceremony will be at the Main Flag Pole Assembly Area.
“Honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation,” according to a Tahoma Cemetery post on Facebook. “Let’s come together to remember and pay respect to our fallen heroes.”
Parking is limited. People are asked to arrive early.
Tahoma National Cemetery was established Nov. 11, 1993, and opened for interments on Oct. 1, 1997. The cemetery was dedicated on Sept. 26, 1997.
Burial in a Veterans Affairs national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces who have met a minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, according to the Tahoma National Cemetery website.
A veteran’s spouse, widow or widower, minor dependent children, and under certain conditions, unmarried adult children with disabilities may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the veteran.
Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty or who die while on training duty, or were eligible for retired pay, may also be eligible for burial.
