Another weekend of lane closures in Kent on SR 167 near Willis Street

Southbound SR 167 to be reduced to single lane Friday night through Monday morning

Another weekend of southbound State Route 167 lane reductions in Kent is set for Friday, Aug. 4 to Monday, Aug. 7.

Southbound SR 167 will be reduced to a single lane Aug. 4-7 for repairs to a bridge just north of SR 516/Willis Street, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). This is the fourth of six weekends of southbound lane reductions for bridge deck resurfacing.

The around-the-clock lane reductions begin at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, and by 11 p.m. southbound will be down to a single lane. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7.

The cost of the project is $3 million, according to WSDOT documents.

Last weekend, contractor crews applied a polyester concrete overlay to the left half of the bridge and kept the far-right lane open. This weekend, instead of switching to the other side, they will stay on the left and grind a textured finish to the new layer of concrete.

Next weekend, Aug. 11-14, they’ll apply the polyester concrete to the right side of the bridge and leave the far-left lane open. The final weekend closure, Aug. 18-21, will allow crews to finish grinding texture on the right side of the bridge.

While polyester concrete has a much shorter cure time than cement concrete, it can’t be applied in the rain, so work may be rescheduled if the forecast is unfavorable, according to WSDOT.
