Kent Police arrested a woman at a Kent hotel for investigation of prostitution after an undercover officer reportedly responded to an ad that offered “full services” on the website www.backpage.com.
The woman told officers after her arrest that she had worked for a few months as a prostitute after she stopped dancing at a Tacoma strip club, according to the police report.
Officers made the arrest Aug. 8 at the Days Inn, 1711 W. Meeker St. Police also banned the woman from the Day’s Inn property for five years. She could be arrested for trespassing if she returns to the property.
An officer spotted an ad on backpage.com that included offers of incall or outcall services. An incall means the woman has a place to meet while an outcall means the woman comes to the place of the customer.
The officer called the phone number on the ad, talked to a woman and agreed to meet her at the hotel for rates of either $100 for a half-hour or $200 for an hour. She promised “full services” after the officer said sometimes they only give him a massage. The woman asked the man if he was a police officer and he said he wasn’t.
Three officers showed up at the hotel and one of them called the woman to find out her room number. They knocked on the door and when the woman answered, an officer called the number on the ad and heard the woman’s cellphone ring. The woman’s phone also had the officer’s phone number listed.
The photos in the website ad also matched the woman in the hotel room. A Renton man had rented the hotel room, but officers only found the woman in the room.
Officers booked the woman into the city of Kent jail. She was released about 30 minutes later, according to jail records. Bail was set at $250.
Assault
Officers arrested a 38-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly punched his sister as many as 15 times with his fists after he could’t get his laptop computer connected to her wireless router for Internet service.
The incident occurred at about 12:46 a.m. Aug. 4 in the 27400 block of 118th Avenue South, according to the police report.
The mother of the two didn’t witness the attack but told officers her son has Schizophrenia and was late for his shot. She said he has a history of violence while not on his medication.
The sister told officers her brother came into her room and grabbed the router. She took the router out of his hands and he pushed her to the floor and began striking her in the head and face with closed fists. She said he hit her about 15 times. She had bruising to her eye, shoulder and hands as well as a bump on her head.
The brother told police his sister tried to stop him from taking his router so he had to beat her up.
Theft
Police arrested a man for investigation of theft of services after he allegedly took a taxi cab ride to Kent from Seattle and failed to pay the fare of $42.50.
Officers responded to a call from a cab driver at about 6:38 p.m. Aug. 6 in the 600 block of First Avenue South where the man who rode in his cab had failed to pay his fare, according to the police report.
Officers said they could smell intoxicants coming from the man as they spoke to him. He told them he had no cash and both of his debit cards were declined when the driver tried to run them.
Police checked with the man’s brother but he refused to pay the fare because his brother has a drinking problem. Officers were unable to get in touch with the man’s wife.
The man asked police, “I’m going to jail for $50?”
An officer told him he was going to jail because he couldn’t get a cab ride from Seattle to Kent and expect not to pay for it.
The man was booked into the city jail at 8:37 p.m. Aug. 6 and released at 2:35 a.m. Aug. 7 with bail set at $500 for third-degree theft, according to jail records.
Assault
Police arrested two men after coming across a series of fights at about 1:28 a.m. Aug. 5 in the parking lot of the El Parral nightclub, 26122 Pacific Highway S.
An officer used a Taser to stop one of the men as he tried to run from police.
Officers arrested one man for investigation of obstructing an officer after he reportedly tried to get another man away from police. They cited a second man for investigation of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after he tried to run from an officer, according to the police report.
Police initially showed up at the bar after they saw a vehicle illegally parked in a fire zone. The two officers then saw numerous people leaving the bar and small fights breaking out in the parking lot.
Many of the people appeared to be intoxicated and one man fell to the ground as he walked because he was so intoxicated. A bouncer at the bar tried to control the crowd as another man tried to go after the bouncer.
A man pushed one of the officers to the ground, but the officer didn’t know which man had pushed him. He suffered a cut elbow but got back up and later took into a custody a man who had tried to pull another man away from officers.
That man he pulled away then fled from officers and ran across Pacific Highway South before an officer fired a Taser and hit him in the ribs, which knocked him to the ground. By that time other officers had arrived to assist the first two officers on the scene.
Police took the man arrested for obstructing to jail. They cited and released the second man because he was so intoxicated. They made sure a sober friend took him home.
