Barzal invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp

Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, has selected center Mathew Barzal to take part in Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp.

The Selection Camp runs from Dec. 10-14 in Etobicoke, Ontario, and will determine Canada’s roster for the 2016 World Junior Championship set for Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Helsinki, Finland.

The 30-player Selection Camp roster was announced Tuesday morning. There are 10 players from the WHL on the Selection Camp roster. The roster includes two goaltenders, 11 defensemen, and 17 forwards.

Barzal leads the T-Birds in scoring with seven goals and 33 assists for 40 points in 22 games.

Barzal was selected by the New York Islanders in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft on June 25. Last season Barzal had 57 points on 12 goals and 45 assists. He had four goals and four assists in six playoff games. In his T-Bird career, Barzal has 151 points on 33 goals and 118 assists in 125 games.

Barzal won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2015 U-18 World Championships in Switzerland in April.
