Breath of Aire choir sings praises for the Kent Food Bank | Slide Show

Saturday was music to the ears of the Kent Food Bank and those in attendance at the Breath of Aire concert at Kent Covenant Church. The choir presented a community benefit concert, The admission for the event was a nonperishable food item for the food bank.

Saturday was music to the ears of the Kent Food Bank and those in attendance at the Breath of Aire concert at Kent Covenant Church.

The choir presented a community benefit concert, The admission for the event was a nonperishable food item for the food bank.

The choir was conducted by Dr. J. Bayard DuBois, a Kent dentist and enthusiastic leader of his singing troupe.

The concert present a wide array of musical selections for about two hours.

According to food bank Director Jeniece Choate, the benefit comes at a crucial time.

“There is a big need and it is rising every month,” Choate said.

In April Choate said the food bank gave monthly food to 2,102 families and more than 100,000 pounds of food was distributed.

“We are like a big revolving door,” said Choate, who has been with the food bank five years. “As soon as it comes in we get it out and distribute it.”

Choate said the need in the food bank increases by about 200 families each month.

“We kind of keep hoping there will be an end in sight,” Choate said.

For anyone interested in donating to the food bank it is located at 515 W. Harrison St. and the hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is open from 5-6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month.

The food bank needs nonperishable food, like canned or boxed food items.

Choate said  the food bank will also be accepting fresh produce from local gardeners.

Along with food, clothing is also distributed and donations are needed.
