City of Kent closes portion of West Valley Highway due to flooding

Shut down between Frager Road and South 277th Street; three other streets also closed

Water over the roadway has caused the city of Kent to close the West Valley Highway (aka 68h Avenue South) between Frager Road and South 277th Street near the city of Auburn.

The city of Kent Public Works Department announced the closure at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. It’s to be determined as far as when the street will reopen, according to a Public Works email.

Other closures include:

• S 277th St from 108th Ave SE to 83rd Ave S/Auburn Way N

• 148th Ave SE from SE 256th St to SE 249th St

• Green River Road from the S 277th St overpass to Kent city limits

City staff noted that traffic control will be in place, and to please use alternate routes. Please do not drive, wade, or walk through flooded areas. Follow posted road closures and never drive around barricades. Turn around, don’t drown.
