City of Kent reopens West Valley Highway in north part of town | Update

Back open Tuesday morning, Dec. 16 between S. 180th Street and S. 196th Street; other streets still closed

The city of Kent reopened early Tuesday morning, Dec. 16, West Valley Highway, aka 68th Avenue South, between South 180th Street and South 196th Street on the north end of town.

City of Kent Public Works Department had closed that section of the street in both directions Monday afternoon due to water over roadway.

Two other roads in Kent were closed Monday morning due to water over roadway.

Frager Road is closed at West Meeker Street and Russell Road is closed at Veterans Drive, according to the city Public Works Department.

Major closures remain along State Route 167 and the West Valley Highway on the south end of Kent.

Public Works crews will be out sandbagging around river levees and pump stations, according to a city update. Public Works staff said that residents may see heavy equipment and large sandbag placement near their neighborhoods. This work is a precautionary measure as crews continue to monitor conditions.

Several areas in and around Kent continue to experience flooding. City crews are out in the field actively monitoring conditions, responding to reports, and adjusting road closures as needed. Conditions can change quickly, so people are asked to use extra caution when traveling.

The following roadways have full road closures due to water over the roadway. When the roads reopen is weather dependent and remains to be determined.
