City of Kent to open Severe Weather Shelter Wednesday night, Jan. 22

Holy Spirit Church will open doors at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Jan. 22-24

The Kent Severe Weather Shelter, located at Holy Spirit Church, 318 Third Ave. S., in downtown, will activate at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, and will continue to operate nightly through Friday, Jan. 24.

The shelter will be open each night of activation from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day, according to the city of Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Lows in Kent are predicted to drop to 28 degrees Wednesday night, 32 Thursday night and 27 on Friday night, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures are expected to be 42 or 43 each day.

Shelter details

• Will open at 9 p.m.

• Check-in from 9 to 10 p.m. is preferred.

• Doors will close once capacity is reached.

• Guests must stay in their assigned locations.

• Bottled water and pre-packaged snacks will be available.

• No re-entry upon exit.

• Guests must vacate shelter by 7 a.m. each morning.
