Communities In Schools of Kent (CISK) hosts a mentor recruitment event 8-10 a.m. Friday at Kona Kai Coffee, 124 4th Ave. S., Kent.
“Many kids have a mentor or positive role model they look up to, but for some children that is not the case,” said Katie Figura, resource development VISTA coordinator for CISK. “Communities In Schools of Kent is looking for new mentors to volunteer with students this fall.”
Mentors meet with their students during the school day, once a week throughout the school year. CISK is looking for anyone interested in spending time with a youth and committed to serving as a positive adult role model.
CISK invites the public to make a difference in the life of a student by becoming an elementary school mentor, high school mentor, or by providing a high school internship or job shadow.
CISK was created in 1991 as the Kent Community Council for At-Risk Children and Youth by local citizens, youth-services organizations, school district employees and the City of Kent. CIS of Kent champions the connection of needed resources with schools to help young people within the Kent School District successfully learn, stay in school, prepare for life.
