Boat fee at Lake Meridian
Boaters must now pay a fee to use the city boat launch at Lake Meridian Park in Kent.
Boaters can use a debit or VISA/Mastercard credit card to pay the per-launch fee of $5 at a touch-activated machine at the launch. No cash will be accepted.
Annual or semi-annual passes are available at Kent Commons, 525 Fourth Ave. N. An annual pass, valid through Dec. 31, is $50. A semi-annual pass, valid July 1 to Dec. 31, is $25.
The Kent City Council passed an ordinance last year to start the fee in 2009 to regulate access and assist in the maintenance and operating costs associated with the launch ramp.
Lake Meridian Park is open year-round from dawn to dusk. Boaters may tie up to the float only to launch and retrieve their boat. The launch is operated by the city of Kent. For more information, call the parks department at 253-856-5100.
Irish music at Senior Center
The Kent Senior Songsters will present a concert of special Irish songs noon March 16, at the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St.
The group will be accompanied by pianist Carli Dreblow. The Kent Senior Songsters will be back at the Senior Center to sing Easter and spring songs on April 13 and patriotic songs on May 18. For more information, call the senior center at 253-856-5150.
