Emphasis patrols in Kent over the weekend lead to arrests

Focus on areas with high crime activity on the East Hill, West Hill and in the Valley

As part of a proactive patrol emphasis, Kent Police officers spent the weekend checking out problem areas on the East Hill, West Hill and in the Valley.

The focus patrols led to numerous arrests, according to a Monday, March 10 Kent Police Facebook post. Here are a few of the incidents:

East Hill

• An officer, on patrol near 104th Avenue SE and SE 208th Street, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle associated with a felony warrant, according to police. The officer contacted the driver, a 33-year-old Kent man, and confirmed he had a felony warrant for trafficking dangerous drugs issued by the U.S. Marshal’s Service. He was taken into custody without incident.

• An officer, conducting extra patrols in an area on East Hill associated with a high level of criminal activity, arrested a 46-year-old Renton woman for a King County theft warrant and for driving while license suspended, according to police. An officer searched her prior to booking and reportedly found a baggie of fentanyl pills and a container of fentanyl powder, which led to an additional potential charge for investigation for possession of a controlled substance.

• Two days later, an officer patrolling the same East Hill area as the previous case, spotted a warrant subject driving away from the area, according to police. The officer took a 37-year-old Kent woman into custody for a $5,100 warrant out of Auburn for drug loitering, which is the intent to engage in a drug-related activity.

West Hill

• An officer. on patrol in a high crime area of the West Hill, spotted a man reportedly openly using drugs in a shopping center, according to police. The Kent man, 49, had a $35,000 warrant out of Pierce County for DUI. During a search of the man, an officer reportedly found fentanyl pills and powder which led to an arrest for investigation of possession of dangerous drugs.

Valley

• At a downtown apartment complex parking lot, an officer saw an 18-year-old Kent man reportedly smoking fentanyl, according to police. A search of the man reportedly found additional fentanyl and the identifications/driver’s licenses belonging to three other people who were not present. The IDs were suspected to be stolen and entered into evidence pending contact with the owners.

• Officers made several DUI arrests, including a 40-year-old Lakewood man who was trying to go eastbound in a westbound lane on Willis Street; and a 39-year-old Seattle woman who was driving on East Gowe Street while missing a tire. Both drivers were reportedly heavily intoxicated, according to police.
