A 37-year-old woman was pregnant when struck and killed by a vehicle in Kent while trying to walk across 108th Avenue SE.
Jessica Vasquez died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office Dec. 29 report. She was pregnant with a boy, Angel Vasquez, who died of fetal death due to maternal multiple blunt force injuries, according to the medical examiner.
Vasquez died after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of 108th Avenue SE and SE 224th Street on the East Hill. Officers responded just before 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, according to a Kent Police news release. Officers found the woman unconscious and not breathing.
Officers began CPR on the woman and were later assisted by Puget Sound Fire personnel. They were able to revive the woman and medics transported her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. She did not survive her injuries and died at the hospital, according to police.
Initial information indicated that the woman was crossing 108th Avenue SE, not in a crosswalk, traveling west across the roadway, according to police. A white SUV was traveling southbound on 108th Avenue and collided with the pedestrian. The driver of the involved vehicle, a 55-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, neither speed nor intoxication appear to be a factor in this collision, according to police. Police traffic investigators were called in to complete the investigation.
GoFundMe account started
Romeo Macias-Vasquez, of Kent, started a GoFundMe account Dec. 26 for his sister, Jessica Vasquez.
Macias-Vasquez wrote that the family needs help raising funds for her funeral. He said his sister was eight months pregnant.
“Jessica was known as a kind, joyful, and respectful person, she always knew how to make you laugh and always lit up the room with her presence,” Macias-Vasquez wrote. “Every time she came over it was the best feeling in the world because we knew we were going to have a great time. It’s so sad that her life was cut short.”
He said any donation would be greatly appreciated.
“We love you guys, stay safe and please hug your love ones! You never know when it might be the last one,” he wrote.
