If you are facing foreclosure on your home or know someone who is, then attend a Foreclosure forum from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S.

A panel of experts will talk about the new state law that goes into effect July 22, according to a Washington Low Income Housing Alliance media release.

The Legislature passed the Foreclosure Fairness Act earlier this year. The act is designed to improve pre-foreclosure communication and will provide homeowners with an opportunity to have a meeting with their lender and a third-party mediator before a foreclosure can proceed.

The forum will be particularly helpful to homeowners who may have questions about their rights or who fear that they may face foreclosure in the future.

State Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines, will host the forum. She was the prime sponsor of the foreclosure bill.

Speakers at the forum will include Orwall, Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke and Bruce Neas, of Columbia Legal Services.

The panel of experts for the question and answer session include Marcy Bowers, Poverty Action Network; Marc Cote, Washington Homeownership Resource Center; Kim Herman, Washington State Housing Finance Commission; Dan McConnon, Washington State Department of Commerce; and Neas.

The forum is presented by the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance and Housing Development Consortium – Seattle & King County.
