A group of local teens will function as a delegation to Japan this summer – and a public fundraiser will help them to get there.
The Kent Auburn Tamba Sister Cities Association is sponsoring a dinner and auction May 2, with the proceeds enabling the group to continue its mission of a youth-exchange program to the City of Tamba.
The following local teenagers have been selected to visit Tamba this summer: (Kent) Selena Hansen, Meridian Middle School, and Cameron Scotland, Kentridge High School; (Auburn) Javon Chow, Reed Guisinger, Will Schwindt, Colton Johnson (all of Auburn Riverside High School); and Dillon Hurley, Auburn Mountain View High School.
These students will stay with local Tamba families and learn firsthand about Japanese culture, food and daily life. And by the same token, those students will host a delegation of teenagers from Tamba, also this summer. The visits are roughly about a week long.
The Sister Cities dinner and auction, which starts 5 p.m. at Green River Community College’s Lindbloom Center, will help give the local teens assistance in funding their trip.
The cost per ticket for the event is $45 per person through April 17. After that, the price goes up to $75.
