Inmate at SCORE Jail dies from unidentified injury

Makena Buckland, 21, died March 4.

A 21-year-old woman incarcerated at the South Correctional Entity, also known as SCORE Jail, died March 4 in Renton as a result of unknown factors.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Makena Buckland, 21, died as a result of an unidentified injury or condition received on March 4 at the SCORE Jail in Des Moines.

Buckland’s cause of death and manner of death are both pending.

According to the SCORE Jail’s booking list, Buckland was booked on Feb. 29, 2024.

The SCORE Jail’s booking data lists Buckland as having been released on March 5 on a court order, and her status as “out of custody.”

According to the medical examiner’s office, the agency responsible for investigating Buckland’s death is unknown.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is released.

SCORE Jail is located in Des Moines and is owned by the cities of Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Renton, SeaTac and Tukwila.
