The annual Des Moines Mid-Sound Sailing Social Sailboat Races will kick off 7-8:30 p.m. July 10 at the Des Moines Marina. A social time and prizes will follow the race. The races continue Thursdays through Aug. 14. Proceeds from the events will benefit Easter Seals’ Camp Stand By Me. Sailboat races start

The annual Des Moines Mid-Sound Sailing Social Sailboat Races will kick off 7-8:30 p.m. July 10 at the Des Moines Marina. A social time and prizes will follow the race. CPR class slated

The Des Moines Activity Center will play host to a Red Cross CPR class 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 18 at the center, 2045 S. 216th St. Attendees will learn about adult CPR and AED Essentials. The course is open to ages 16 and older. The cost is $39. For details or to register, call 206-878-1642.

Theater camps coming

At the Ridge Theatre and the Kent School District will offer two summer-musical theater camps this month at Kent Kentridge High School, 12430 S.E. 208th St., Kent. The first camp, for ages 15 and younger, will run 9 a.m. to noon July 21 through 25. Participants will put on a performance of “Music Man Jr.” on the last day of camp. The second camp, for high school students, will run 9 a.m. to noon July 30 through Aug. 1. For details and cost, call 425-255-4203 or e-mail mekad2@comcast.net.

Groups earn grant

The Kent Historical Society was among 32 recipients throughout King County to be awarded a Heritage Special Projects grant by King County cultural services agency 4Culture.

The Kent Historical Society received $2,500. The group will use the money to fund an exhibit, called “A-Y-P: The Kent Connection,” focusing on how the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exhibition impacted Kent.

The University District Arts and Heritage Committee in Des Moines also received an award of $6,000 to create Alaska-Yukon-Pacific commemorative trading cards.
