A Kent family of four escaped injury after a driver in the opposite direction crossed the center line and struck their trailer while traveling along State Route 2, about 24 miles west of Leavenworth.
A Kent couple and their two children, ages 3 and 1, were westbound at about 3:46 p.m. on Wednesday in a 2005 Ford F-250 with a trailer when a 1999 Toyota RAV4 traveling eastbound crossed the center line and struck the trailer, according to a State Patrol media release. The trailer began to fishtail and swung into the eastbound lane where it was struck by a third vehicle. The trailer came to a rest on its side and blocked all lanes.
The driver of the Toyota, an 81-year-old Woodinville woman, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The State Patrol cited her for second-degree negligent driving. Paramedics transported the woman to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth.
Paramedics also transported a 36-year-old Selah man, the driver of the third vehicle, to the hospital.
All drivers and passengers used seat restraints, according to the State Patrol.
