An 84-year-old Kent man died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash at about 9:48 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27 in the 25000 block of 104th Ave. SE.
Multiple witnesses called 911 to report the crash, according to a Kent Police news release. Officers found the man trapped in a 2011 Ford Ranger that was on its driver’s side in the roadway.
Puget Sound Fire firefighters used extraction tools to free the man, who was alone in the truck. The man received medical aid at the scene but died while en route to the hospital, according to police.
Witnesses told officers that a 2014 BMW SUV was reportedly driving recklessly in the turn lane on 104th Avenue SE just prior to colliding with the Ford Ranger that was legally entering the roadway from a private drive, according to police. The BMW driver, a 21-year-old Renton resident, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Kent Police Traffic Unit will collect evidence and statements to determine the cause of the crash and the circumstances that led up to it.
The roadway was closed in both directions for several hours as officers investigated the crash.
