A Kent mobile home fire at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday displaced a family of four in the 24400 block of 64th Avenue South.
No one was injured in the fire.
Kent firefighters arrived to find the fire showing out of the windows and doors and the family standing outside the home, according to a Kent Fire Department media release. Firefighters knocked the fire down quickly and then extinguished any hidden space fires.
Family members were able to escape when they were awakened by the sound of things falling in the kitchen and the smell of smoke.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. The home is a total loss.
The family will stay with local relatives. The homeowners do not have insurance.
The home had smoke detectors, but fire investigators are unsure if the detectors were working at the time of the fire.
Fire officials want to remind residents that only working smoke detectors can alert you to a fire. It is important to check the smoke detector regularly and to change the batteries at least twice a year. An easy reminder is when you change your clocks for daylights-saving time, change your smoke detector batteries.
