Vicente Islas Gomez died after a vehicle struck him as he tried walking across Central Avenue South, just north of South 259th Street, in Kent.

Gomez, 50, died of multiple blunt force injuries in the April 21 collision, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office April 23 report, which ruled the death an accident.

At about 8:47 p.m. April 21 in the 900 block of Central Avenue South, a vehicle driven by a 68-year-old Auburn man struck Gomez, according to Kent Police. A witness told police that Gomez had crossed from the middle turn lane into the southbound lane and was struck when the vehicle was unable to stop.

The driver was cooperative with the investigation, including tests for determining if he was under the influence of any intoxicants, according to police. The initial evidence gathered led officers to believe that intoxicants were not a factor in the collision.
