Kent Police arrest husband for attacking his wife

Reportedly pointed a gun at her; assaulted family member who came to help

Kent Police arrested a 35-year-old Kent man for investigation of first-degree assault domestic violence and other offenses after he reportedly attacked his wife, pointed a gun at her and attacked another family member who came to help the woman and children in the home.

Multiple officers responded at about 8:24 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 to a home along 118th Avenue SE on the East Hill after 911 calls reporting a domestic violence assault, according to a May 15 Kent Police statement.

Dispatch advised the officers that a family member called 911 to report that the man reportedly had assaulted his own wife, and he was known to carry firearms, according to police. The caller said that the couple’s children were inside the home and the man reportedly was preventing them from leaving. He added that a loud bang was heard inside the home while the children were still inside.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to witnesses and the man’s wife, a 34-year-old Kent resident. They advised that the husband allegedly had assaulted his wife during an argument, pointed a gun at her and prevented her from calling 911.

He later reportedly assaulted a family member who arrived to assist, according to police. The man initially prevented the children’s mother from extricating the kids from the home after the reported assault, and physically fought her to keep them inside. He also tossed her phone away to prevent her from calling 911.

The family member, a 39-year-old Kent man, who arrived and attempted to intervene, reportedly was attacked by the man outside the home, according to police. The husband allegedly scratched the man’s face and attempted to strangle him, leaving multiple injuries to his face and neck. The husband then walked back inside the home. A short time later, he walked the children out of the home to their mother.

Officers had surrounded the residence to prevent the man from fleeing and to protect the residents of the nearby homes, according to police. They utilized their PA system to instruct the man to come outside, which he eventually did. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Officers transported the man to the King County jail and booked him for investigation of first-degree assault domestic violence for his use of the firearm, second-degree assault for strangling and eye gouging of the family member, two counts of fourth-degree assault domestic violence and interfering with reporting of domestic violence.

The case is now with detectives for further investigation and forwarding of charges to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
